Review of Only God Forgives (2013) by Everardo C — 21 Jan 2014
After watching this film, the viewer is really only left knowing one thing for sure: Refn makes some of the most visually striking films of our generation. Beyond that, however, the film leaves you wondering about almost everything else. The characters had so much depth that they were never fully realized. The dialogue was virtually nonexistent, and the plot wasn't really a plot at all. Yet, somehow, it seems to work. Its simplicity is endearing and artful.
The movie seemed almost like the B-Side to any other film. This was a watered-down, beautifully-executed foil to a more robust vengeance movie. I liked it, and yet I'm still not even entirely sure what it is that I saw.
