Review of Only God Forgives (2013) by Reub M — 27 Jan 2015
I loved Drive so much that it is actually one of my all time favorite movies. To see Ryan Gosling and Nicolas Winding Refn go at it again in Only God Forgives, I was pumped. My most anticipated movie of 2013.
Nothing compared to Drive, and if you loved Drive, don't expect to watch this and see Drive. Although the movie could be confusing to a normal audience, this movie actually has a lot of depth. This isn't what I could call a normal movie.
It really stands out a lot and has disappointed many people. But I honestly found the movie to be enjoyable. I thought it was slow paced but that honestly doesn't mean it wasn't a well placed film.
It certainly was. The cinematography was beautiful and in many scenes, I felt it was nearly majestic feeling. Although Gosling has very few lines, almost every line you expect to see comes from his expressions, very well done on Goslings part.
The soundtrack was great and the acting was sort of dull but nothing horrible. I have a feeling that in the next generation of movies, this will be looked at as a cinematic masterpiece. Very well crafted, visually stunning.
