Review of Only God Forgives (2013) by Iain B — 20 Nov 2013
So I really liked Drive quite a bit last year and had really high expectations for Only God Forgives, but saw that it wasn't getting good reviews and got me worried. I finally got around to watching it on Netflix and you can definitely tell its the same director of Drive, but instead of paying homage to the 80s action films (like Drive did), this film pays homage to Asian Kung-fu films (similar to Kill Bill, but totally different).
The film is really slow and has very little dialogue, similar to Drive, but I really liked that film's story and characters, where I didn't really care about any of the characters here that much at all, especially the main character's brother.
Overall I still enjoyed this film, but what worked so well in Drive falls flat and I was pretty disappointed in this film.
