Review of Only Angels Have Wings (1939) by Stephen C — 09 Aug 2009
Knockout movie from master director Howard Hawks.
This film is just choc full of great moments and memorable actors.
Cary Grant is on top form as a leader of a group of daredevil fliers whose job has to carry on despite bad weather ,dangerous loads and the threat of death hanging over his mean.
Jean Arthur is great as a typical Hawks woman ,feisty with plenty to say but deep down needing the attentions of a good man.
The film is packed full of memorable dialogue "Who's Joe? and other great moments of humour and tragedy.
Hawks was a master at this kind of film and this here is one of his best a classic which never ages.
