Review of Onibaba (1964) by Christopher S — 09 Nov 2009
A gothic horror masterpiece from Japan tells a simplistic but effective story reminiscent of a dark fable with extraordinary visual imagery and black and white cinematography. The pacing is slow at times, but there are so many intense moments, strong authentic performances, and memorable macabre images to keep it compelling in an almost hypnotic, dream-like way.
A true classic of both Japanese and horror cinema.
