Review of Onibaba (1964) by Niek S — 17 Jul 2011
Creepy, amospheric, period supernatural drama from Japan. The ghost story elements are very subtle and really don't manifest themselves until the last 10 minutes. The frank, erotic and earthy depiction of sex seems very modern and probably would have shocked American audiences of the '60's.
A very lyrical film with an interesting, percussive, modern sounding score.
