Review of Ong Bak 3 (2010) by Jap O — 13 Jan 2011
While the plot and action of this film make it a slightly above average martial arts film, the color treatment is nothing short of brilliant. It helps tell the story in many ways - the evil King's skin tones start with warm yellows but slowly turn pale as he descends into madness.
The poor townspeople's skin tones are a sickly yellow, the 'demon' fighter's tones are ashen gray, while the hero's skin tones are a powerful bronze. The bold golds of the statues and jewelry are hypnotic against the lush jungle greens.
The whole film is a great treat for the eye if you can get past the melodramatic martial arts movie formula.
