Review of Ong Bak 3 (2010) by Anthony N — 05 Mar 2011
What is it with sequals these days in my day Return of the Jedi was the best 3rd of any sequal(trilogy really) but it kept the story evolving, here the story is very complicated and messy.
Tony Jaa has taken on too much in this one and its clear for the first 20-30 minutes of the film I was very confused, also the pacing was way off.
To appreciate that he is somewhat of a god in my house is an understatment my kids love him esp in The Protector, he stars in the film, wrote the story, chorographed all the fight scenes AND directed the film.
Sounds like an ego to me working, as such directors as Charlie Chaplin or Clint Eastwood can pull something like that off, Tony Jaa does not.
Having taken a film class on editing the pacing of this film was slow and then the fight scenes sort of happen out of nowhere, no build up etc.
Having said that I guess I fall into the catagory of you fell for it again and saw another crappy sequal, well this year is listed as the year with the most sequals & prequals.Even from Thailand I guess.
