Review of Ong Bak 2 (2008) by Jonas J — 15 Sep 2009
With Ong Bak, Tony Jaa brought something I'd never seen. He raised the bar and all that. With The Protector, everything massively improved. The storytelling was clearer, the stunt work really tried some amazing new things (8min stedi-cam fight!), and, the greatest improvement, Tony Jaa has less lines.
So now comes Ong Bak. The big thing I noticed right off was how damn beautiful it was. It looked remarkable. It's like sepia tone in the jungle. Beautiful. But...The acting, still, by everyone, is not great. That's okay. I didn't go into this movie for that. The plot really didn't interest me. Again, not why I was there. But, for the first time, some of the action bored me. Just a tiny bit. It is still unbelievable. Only, this time, there was nothing unexpected or new.
