Review of Ong Bak 2 (2008) by Jho R — 16 Oct 2009
Tony Jaa finally finds himself in the perfect setting worthy of his abilities, which he demonstrates once again with gut wrenching intensity. This time around, we get to see what he can do with the camera, and what we get is a beautiful, elegant look at the culture and the surrounding kingdom of Thailand. The cinematography is gorgeous and proves that Jaa has skill and style behind the camera as well.
The story you say? Very minimal, as a boy he starts as a hopeless victim and then becomes a fighting machine, nothing the world of martial arts hasn't seen before, but it's executed so well and has so much to see and experience.. Ninjas, samurais, crocodiles, elephants, sword fights, kung fu, animal styles, drunken thai boxing... Gritty, sharp edited, unbelievable acrobatic mayhem ensues and you don't want to blink.
There is nobody like Tony Jaa, he has become a titan in such a short amount of time, this is only the beginning and should not be missed by ANY martial arts fan.
