Review of Ong Bak 2 (2008) by Simon W — 26 Oct 2009
As a newcomer to Tony Jaa, this felt more like a vanity project for the star/co-director than a coherent film. The way events conspire so leaders, elders, villains and even elephants (I shit you not) come to bow to this youngster is more jarring than inspiring, making the lead less of the new Bruce Lee, more the new Vin Diesel.
When it comes to slo-mo in action scenes less is more. Here's a perfect example of more is less. The guy can fight, but can't tell a story. I was planning on finally watching the original Ong Bak after this, but now I'm more likely to rewatch House of Flying Daggers instead.
