Review of Ong Bak 2 (2008) by Patrick B — 12 Feb 2010
In the first Ong Bak Tony Jaa amazes us with Muay Thai fighting. In the Protector, he shows how much he can fight before the scene cuts. But I was wondering what he would do with this film. Tony Jaa learned almost every fighting style you can think of for this film and it was intense.
He would use one style and then quickly switch to another. Or he would mix them together. It was amazing. Tony Jaa is truly an action star. One scene I loved was when he switched from Drunken Boxing to Muay Thai.
So that being said, lets get to the movie. The story has nothing to do with the first Ong Bak. The only thing in common is the Muay Thai fighting, same Tony Jaa and same crazy stunts. The story behind this is more fantasy like.
More like a superhero and super villain type film. Plus it takes place more in Thailand and goes no where else. This is the first of a two part movie. I didn't know this until I looked at the DVD and saw a preview for Ong Bak 3.
So this movie does just cut off, but again don't let that fool you since the 3rd is the sequel. But overall, the story is a little in pieces. They relied too much on the fighting over the story. It was still ok though.
But all the fighting really makes up for it and I cannot wait to see the 3rd one. Great film, great acting, ok story and amazing fight scenes.
