Review of Ong Bak 2 (2008) by Jhary O — 21 Apr 2010
I had such hope for this just because Tony Jaa and his crazy flying knee kick, but even that was not enough to carry this trite and done-to-death storyline. The beginning was not bad, but it quickly descended into tedium. The only saving grace, of course, was the martial arts scenes.
I even tried to overlook the horrid voice dubbing - you'd think after 50+ years of dubbing foreign films they would learn NOT to use the people with voices that instill nothing but involuntary cringing.
I figured it would still be a decent action flick and I was wrong. 30% of my rating is attributed just to the fight scenes. The plot has been used so many times it is not even worth mentioning and the attempted twists ran the gamut from predictable to ludicrous. The story was simply stupid.
I really enjoyed the other movies Jaa has done and hope he can recover from this waste of time.
