Review of Ong Bak 2 (2008) by Lee B — 11 Jul 2010
I reckon theres an amazing film in here somewhere, unfortunately the finished product isnt it.
Tony Jaa is bloody brilliant, but just being that good doesnt sustain a feature film. This film is pretty much plotless and this takes away any point or tension from the many, many fight scenes that occur. Why are they fighting? Who is he fighting? Who should I be rooting for? Why is he climbing over Elephants? Whys the guy who trained him suddenly his enemy? What the hell is going on????
Also, although this film is rated 15 the fight scenes are bloodless, apart from the little bit of swordplay here and there, theres full scenes of people (seemingly) getting their faces pummeled, or bones (seemingly) snapped, and then you see them without even a bruise and just groaning a bit?! Annoying! I want to see portruding bones and caved in faces!
Just ok, bit could and should have been so much better.
