Review of Ong Bak 2 (2008) by Jermain J — 23 Apr 2011
Although set over five and a half centuries before Ong Bak 1, this film is no prequel. The name must be only for recognition, marketing.
This is one of the most stunning martial arts films I have ever seen. In Ong Bak 1, Tony Jaa emerges as the cinematic king of Muay Thai. Here, he flashes maybe a glimmer of his native brand of boxing, choosing instead to demonstrate his mastery of apparently every style of kung fu, and maybe a dozen discrete traditional weapons. His baddassery may be peerless, and he's a fine and charismatic actor.
Saw this three days ago and an still high from it. Recommend! Recommend!
