Review of One Week (2008) by Jim M — 07 Jul 2009
Ben Taylor is diagonosed with cancer, the doctors tell him his chances of recovery are slim. Rather then seek treatment immediatly, Ben buys a motorcycle and begins a journey that will take him from Toronto, Ontario to Tofino, British Columbia.
One of the better Canadian films, One Week is a meditation on the meaning of one's life, and the moments that make it special. It also serves as a love letter to Canada, showcasing the country and the landscape. Joshua Jackson carries the show well, and the supporting cast adds to the feeling of the greatness of this country (it includes a pot smoking Gord Downie). The cinematography is amazing and the score gripping. Not perfect (the narration can get annoying for one), but this is recommended viewing whether your Canadian or not.
