Review of One Week (2008) by Beth G — 03 May 2012
Very solidly average. It has the voice over and theme of fate from Amelie and the natural settings and journey from Into the Wild without the whimsy or truly inspiring journey that makes those movies so potent.
Yes, the plot is a man with cancer trying to find himself and it asks you what you would do in your last week to live, but still it seems to skim the surface of inspiration and poignancy. I have to agree with the critic who says that One Week is "kinda aimless, pleasant and bland" because it is all of those things.
The ending disappointed me, but some might find it satisfying. One Week is in no way a bad movie, but one should only watch it if you have an hour and a half to kill and Amelie and Into the Wild aren't present.
..or if you're a fan of Joshua Jackson who doesn't disappoint despite the lacking script.
