Review of One Trick Pony (1980) by Jake C — 04 Jun 2018
Like Prince's "Purple Rain," the music here well outshines whatever other cinematic qualities the movie attempts. Overwrought, underwritten, flatly acted-but, oh man, those songs! That band! And in the end, much to the movie's benefit, the camera lingers longer on Simon-the-singer than it does on Simon-the-actor.
The result is about half concert film, half mediocre melodrama, but one hell of a great soundtrack.
