A hyped up premise unfortunately begets a mediocre film for One Piece Film: Red. A lot of motivation for characters go unexplained while others are crammed into your head over and over. The music is really well done and in the moment could even be described as incredible, but nothing that you'll be playing on the way home from the theaters.
While the animation is pretty good, a lot of it feels like just another filler arc turned movie. You may get some enjoyment from it whether you're a One Piece fan or not, but other films in the series may prove more worth your while.
