Review of One Missed Call (2008) by Chads. — 09 Jan 2008
If horror films were populated with smart characters, nobody would die. A smart person avoids dark places, especially if they're alone. A smart person doesn't get into a crawl space. That's where they keep the dead bodies.
Beth(Shannyn Sossamon) is the sort of heroine that inspires audience participation. When Beth isn't putting herself in harm's way, she's endangering her friends. Beth is practically an accomplice when the first male victim gets murdered.
Her college friend's untimely demise is a symptom of callous neglect. Beth had witnessed the supernatural occurence with her pal's cell-phone, and should've never left the doomed girl alone.
It's up to you. Beth is either a bad friend, or the victim of a bad script that renders everybody with bad judgment so the story can progress towards a convoluted fatalism. "One Missed Call" has its share of eye-popping visuals, but they're recycled from other Japanese(or Japanese-inspired) horror flicks.
