Review of One Million Years B.C. (1966) by Pj P — 26 Nov 2007
I was surprised that the characaters act without saying a single word in English throughout the whole movie, but choose cavemen speak, coupled with a few Tarzan like "me Loana, you Tumak". As expected, Raquel Welch was amazing in every scene because of the pre-historic bikini (which was, btw, the skimpiest outfit amongst all her tribe members), and the timeless shot of her on the front cover of the DVD.
However, this movie goes for cheap thrills such as dinosaurs fighting each other, humans v humans, humans v dinosaurs, humans v giant spiders, giant turtles... etc. It's excusable that the filmakers purposely ignored history and put humans smack with dinosaurs that died 65m years ago, but confusion between being artsy and exploitative is just a shot in the foot.
Give me Barbarella: Queen of the Galaxy anyday.
