Review of One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) by Tom R — 20 Sep 2010
I love everything about 101 Dalmatians. I love its story, animation style, music, and its outlandishness, but what I love the most is Cruella De Vil. She is by far the most hysterical, unsubtle, over-the-top female antagonist I have ever seen.
With her catchy theme, Cruella's blatant cruelness towards everything is what makes her as memorable as Darth Vader. She's the perfect villain; being Machiavellian and vile. The end car chase is not only exciting, but it's motivated by her recklessness.
If you've seen The Emperor's New Groove, you can see who Yzma's character is inspired by. Then there are the Dalmatians, who are all charming. Not once did I think any of the puppies were annoying, which sometimes happens with young characters in family movies.
This is a Disney film firing on all cylinders and if you have not seen it, please do. It gets my highest recommendation and it's enjoyable for any age.
