Review of One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) by Ryan T — 13 Aug 2013
While not outstanding as say Fantasia or Snow White, Dalmatians is a pleasing film that will equally please both young and old. With memorable characters and a hip modern (for the time) feel. The most memorable part of this film though is the villain.
Cruella De Vil is a great comic screen presence that makes the film a true Disney classic. Disney does villains well and Cruella is no exception. Betty Lou Gerson portrays her with equal sophistication and sinister intention.
One minute she's calm and reasonable, the next she's swerving all over the road in her car. The animation is also good and the little kids in the audience will love the cuteness of it all, while the adults may find a couple of jokes to laugh at.
Dalmatians is still one of my favourites, not stellar, but I would definitely watch it again.
