Review of One Hour Photo (2002) by Pierre K — 05 May 2010
After hearing the critics complain about all the softy sentimental roles he plays, Williams goes against type as a lonely photo technician who becomes obsessed with a family of whose photos he develops.
Williams does fantastic work, making you forget that this was the guy who was Patch Adams, Mrs. Doubtfire and Mork by playing a deeply disturbed and sad man. With thinning blonde hair and a conservative nature, Williams immerses himself into the life of a man in need of help.
He doesn't play a full on psycho or anything of that nature, but turns in wonderful work as a three dimensional character. Basically, I forgot that I was watching the actor and I was watching a character.
However, the movie is unsettling to watch, making the viewer participate in the character's voyeur-like personality. I felt like my brain needed to take a bath after seeing this movie.
