Review of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) by Kevin R — 12 Feb 2012
There's got to be one guy in here that's not totally fucking nuts.
A rebellious inmate is sent to a psychological ward for evaluation to see if they can uncover why he is so devious. The inmate takes several patients and rallies them against their ruthless head nurse. Initially, it looks like the inmates time will be a walk in the park compared to prison; but ultimately, the inmate will learn that a hospital can be more dangerous that prison.
"You're not a loony cowboy you're a fisherman!".
Milos Forman, director of Goya's Ghost, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Amadeus, and The Firemen's Ball, delivers One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The storyline for this picture is excellent and reminded me of Nicholson's characters in Easy Rider and Five Easy Pieces. The acting, script and directing is brilliant making this an epic masterpiece. The cast includes Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, and Christopher Lloyd.
"Somebody get me a wiener before I fucking die.".
We're huge Jack Nicholson fans and I have not seen this picture since I was a teenager (or maybe before). I was surprised by several sequences in this film and how it inspired other pictures (Dream Team comes to mind). I loved this movie and now have further appreciation for why imdb rates it the 9th greatest movie of all time. I strongly recommend seeing this picture and it is surely worth adding to your DVD collection.
"I fight and fuck too much.".
Grade: A+.
