Review of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) by Chris C — 13 Apr 2012
So emotionally impacting, so great in the fact that it shows Jack Nicholson in the only way he can be shown, as a badass, rule breaking macho man who stands up for those who can't be stood up for. Hollywood has a large collection of these actors such as Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, Bruce Willis, Joe Pesci, etc, etc.
When you watch this movie, by the end of it (I won't spoil it), you can't believe how things turn out. The overall moral of the story has to be, challenge authority, and don't always live your life the way others want you to.
Do what you want, and free yourself. Jack Nicholson goes down as one of my favorite actors of all time. This might be his landmark performance that defines his whole career. The meaning of the title is pretty obvious, by the end of the movie, only one got to fly "over the cuckoos nest" or to paraphrase, to get out of the madness asylum to freedom.
