A wonderful story about the triumph of the human spirit. It took me a long time to finally watch this, I suppose if I had viewed this sooner I would not know how to appreciate this film as I do now. The film boasts at least three terrific performances: Jack Nicholson as the merry trickster who cons his way into a mental hospital, however as good as Jack was, the film simply wouldn't work without the ensemble cast like Brad Dourif as the most fragile of the inmates, the suicidal Billy Bibbit and Will Sampson as the largely silent Native American.
It is an engrossing story with top notch acting, it is a classic.

Best Actress: Louise Fletcher.

Best Screenplay.
