Review of One False Move (1991) by Paul P — 21 Mar 2009
I revsited this film for the fist time in at least a decade and it is safe to say that it has stood the test of time admirably.
Our trio of criminals are a really intriguing bunch. Billy Bob plays the hot headed red neck punk really well. Michael Beach does a terrific job playing Pluto with very few words. His body language and his actions tell you everything you need to know about the kind of guy he is. Cynda Wiliams puts in some very nice work as well. As for the good guys, Bill Paxton is such good value here. Underrated as per usual, the changes in his character as the story progresses are subtly handled and you become totally invested in this guy.
The film's ace in the hole is the story itself, it is well plotted and Carl Franklin's direction allows the events that unfold to have a hefty impact. Overall, this is an absorbing drama which avoids the usual thriller cliches.
