Review of One Direction: This Is Us (2013) by A Wise M — 14 Aug 2013
I was part of a handful of males watching this during the screening I attended (four of us sitting next to each other were gay males). Besides that, I think this movie was a lot better than I had anticipated.
I went along for the ride and realized that this movie wasn't going to go into much depth, but would show just how much fun these really young super stars are having. I think what's important to note is that the documentary part of this movie could have shown drama, girlfriends, and the really negative sides of life, but I think these boys are really having a blast doing what they do and it shows through in this movie.
To show their girlfriends and that drama would just be like trying to validate love in middle school (those relationships last 2 days). So, I think it was wise to just show the families and the boys of One Direction.
I think the scenes with the families were all mostly very touching and well placed without going overboard. The concert scenes were all fun and adequate. I think this movie was a good way to show the world wide craze behind these guys.
The fans are the ones who have propelled them to where they are, and I applaud them for being so successful. Also, I lost count of how many times Liam was shirtless, mostly because I was just busy gushing.
So, I would say give this movie a go. If you don't like them, you don't like them, move on. If you don't know about them, you might start to like them. If you already like them, you'll love them more for this!
