Review of One Dark Night (1982) by Grayson W — 24 Jul 2014
One Dark Night was a somewhat disappointing horror film, overall. I knew nothing about the film going in other than Tom McLoughlin directed it (who directed one of my favorite entries in the Friday the 13th series Part VI: Jason Lives), so I didn't really know what to expect.
The title and the opening implies a lot of spooky happenings, and while there is a bit of it, the movie as a whole is pretty lackluster. It's pretty straightforward though as a story: a girl has to stay in a locked-up mausoleum overnight in order to pledge for a girls' group, but is surprised to find that the dead won't stay dead.
The story, which involves a psychokinetic dead serial killer who is reanimating corpses, winds up being pretty lame and doesn't really lead the story anywhere. The characters are mostly annoying, as well.
There are some neat creature effects and some genuinely spooky atmosphere, but overall, it failed to leave me completely entertained, especially with the ending as it kind of peters out.
