Review of One Chance (2013) by Pete G — 07 Mar 2014
Always a problem with biopics of famous people, no matter how famous they are. You know they become famous! So you already know the ending. Apart from James Corden being very likeable and loveable in the role of Potts, there isn't really anything else here that's worth seeing.
Apart from a scene stealing Mackenzie Crook as Paul's manager, who has some pretty funny one liners. It is short on laughs but they only make you briefly giggle. The main things that let this down are the slap dash storytelling, there is always a lapse in time albeit 6 months, 18 months a year or even 6 weeks.
There is also the god awful lip syncing that Corden does, seeing as he isn't a singer they had to do something, but it doesn't match well. The final thing that really ruins the film is the loathsome attempt at cut and pasting the audition from BGT.
Its so obvious they used archive footage from ITV. Its very distracting. If these problems were fixed it would've been a lot better but its not that good. Give it a miss.
