Review of Ondine (2010) by Lora N — 07 Jun 2010
So it took me a while to get into this film...I've never been much of a Colin Farrell fan. But eventually Neil Jordan was able to get me past my indifference to Farrell with the other captivating members of the cast. Alison Barry was fantastic as Syracuse's (Farrell) daughter. Alicja Bachleda was brilliant with her odd mixture of fear and mystery. And what would a Jordan film be without Stephen Rea?
Of course what sealed it for me was the music. Ondine's siren song was Sigur Ros' "All Alright." Kjartan Sveinsson also composed the score for the film. In addition, there were some wonderful pieces by Lisa Hannigan, the singer that use to collaborate with Damien Rice (among many other great Irish acts.).
This film is an interesting mixture...it lulls you into a sense of security with the fairytale and then turns things up by sprinkling in a bit of thriller.
