Review of Ondine (2010) by Jeri C — 23 Jul 2010
This odd and moody film was pleasant to watch. Colin Farrell is handsome and believable as a lonely fisherman who is tormented by his own demons. Alicja Bachleda was beautiful and mysteroius as the lovely mermaid ( or rather a selkie) who captures the fisherman's interest and his young daughter's heart.
Much of the cinematography was dark but it added to a mood that evoked ancient maritime folklore and the film had some interesting editing.
Some of the thick Irish dialect was hard to pick up at times but the direction kept the storyline from becoming too complicated which worked for me in the end.
