I saw this movie back to couple of years ago when I was studying in New Zealand. It contains every element for a typical maori culture: tatoo, drinking, Auckland gang scene, violent and Black Singlet. A movied made decade prior to later-known Whale Rider, Tamahori touched the Maori's core value on the ground of the family value and androcentrism.
