Review of Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) by Bill C — 12 Sep 2010
This movies so gritty you feel like you need to take a shower when its done. In the progression of Leone Movies from "Fistful" to a "Few dollars more" and my favorite "The Good Bad and the Ugly" the saying more is not always better come to mind.
This movie come off as more an agglomeration of western cliches than having anything to do with the west. Yes Bronson has had a few good parts in his career, but I kept waiting for Clint Eastwood to walk into the action.
Also the 15 minute glares don't have the payout that they did in TGTB&TU. On the plus side Henry Fonda has a very complex role as the bad guy gun for hire. Definitely worth a watch for anyone who's enjoyed a spaghetti western, but the pace really drags almost everywhere.
