Review of Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) by Steph S — 27 Dec 2012
I misjudged "Once Upon a Time in the West" upon watching it for the first time. It is a film that requires multiple viewings to fully appreciate, and while some curious editing and a slow pace threaten to damage its credibility, it remains to be one of the finest Westerns that cinema has to offer.
Ennio Morricone's brilliant, iconic score, camerawork that captures the beauty of the western landscape and the nuanced performances of Jason Robards and Henry Fonda go a long way in making it the classic that it is.
Frank's entrance and Harmonica's flashback stand as perhaps two of the single greatest scenes ever committed to celluloid.
