Review of Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) by Spyros T — 01 Jul 2011
A masterpiece!
Direction, story, performances, cinematography and score close to perfection!
I have to say here that I cannot be objective when I watch something shot by Leone and scored by Morricone. It is by far my favourite kind of filmmaking.
Close expressive shots of faces were those who had highlighted Leone's talent in his previous films. In his first major production the great Italian director adds lyrical and atmospheric shots, giving the general sense of epic.
Even simple scenes, such as the introduction with the fly and the water drops are a pleasure to watch!
The final showdown is one of the best scenes in all of cinema.
