From a typical Hollywood perspective, the whole thing is quite a mess, but because it's got Robert Rodriguez at its helm, it's more forgivable to just let the film have fun. Antonio Banderas does what he does best, and Johnny Depp proves to be a candid addition to the legacy of El Mariachi.
