Review of Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003) by Glen O — 12 Jul 2013
A Man without Eyes fights a Man without a Face in a Movie without Fear. Rodriguez shot this in only seven weeks after pulling an all nighter to get a promised script finished in time, using what was then new digital technology.
The studio didn't think he could do it but he pulled it off in a messy kind of way. The casting is great and Johnny Depp ad libs his way through his eight day shoot admirably. The title tips its sombrero to Sergio Leone but as fun as this movie is it's not in quite the same league.
Still it's all good fun, visually interesting and has great spaghetti western style music.
