Review of Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019) by Righter — 25 Aug 2019
Tedious and pointless. There's nothing here. It's a big, boring lump of hot air, but it's Tarantino so very few people are willing to tell you that the emperor is butt-naked. If you don't like it, they'll tell you you just didn't 'get it', but there's an offensive lack of anything 'to get'.
This is what "Too Big To Fail" looks like in Hollywood. The movie's long, which wouldn't be a problem if it had anything to say, but it doesn't. It's got great actors, great cinematography, and a great soundtrack, and they're all lacking any interesting plot to service and are thus all wasted.
Tarantino's always been a bit of a hit and miss director/writer, but even with his more mediocre movies, there have always been one or two wonderfully written scenes that make up for the fluff. This does not have any of that.
This is fluff without any genius. I'd have given it even less than a 4 if it hadn't been for the aforementioned actors, cinematography, and music.
