Review of Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019) by Nyebaby37 — 12 Aug 2019
OUATIH is just not for everyone. Going into the movie I had no idea what it was about, ultimately hoping QT was going to rewrite history, and he does, and I didn't see it coming -- not in that violent a fashion.
We all know how one night's circumstances can change the lives of many, and this did. The Country was already divided with hippies, the war, etc. I remember this well and appreciated it because I'm familiar with the history of the times.
I think if someone of a different age/historical memory may now be aware of the Manson murders, you just won't get it. QT gave the killers -- instead of Sharon Tate & friends, horrific violent deaths -- a reversal of misfortune.
I found the film extremely moving, oddly enough (unkown at the time) seeing in on 8/8, same date as the murders. It's by far the best movie he's done, and it hit home that once upon a time in hollywood some of this unfortunatlely happened, for real.
