Review of Once Upon a Time in America (1984) by Martin T — 22 Jan 2010
It's awfully hard to take a movie seriously when everyone is saying "noodles" all the time. And yet, this movie takes itself very seriously: all solemn speeches, cheap symbolism, and meaningful zooms.
Oh, it's all well done with fine (but not brilliant) performances, an admirable attention to detail, convincing historical recreation, and a gorgeous look to it. But it left me empty and unimpressed.
