Review of Once Upon a Time in America (1984) by Daniel W — 18 Feb 2010
Basically it's a crime epic, Leone style. No one asks to compare this with Coppola's Godfather, as it stands alone as a fine epic. Without the symbolism and cynicism of the Godfather, Leone put emphasis on human emotions and relationships - what Noodles did for friends and what he had gone through to keep his principles for friends, in ever harsher conditions like the criminal underworld.
