Having seen the theatrical version, I can definitely see development potential in the largely extended director's cut. With stellar acting and a beautifully melancholy score, Once Upon a Time in America makes a great addition to the gangster film genre, with Sergio Leone setting an unmistakeably unique tone to the movie that made it his own.
