Review of Once Upon a Time in America (1984) by Paul A — 30 Mar 2011
Ok, so to state the obvious, this film is moving, beautiful, captivating, etc. It is, as many have said, Leone's masterpiece. I hate to try to compare this to another film but it sort of plays like "Cinema Paradiso", which is a weird comparison since "CP" was years later and a love story about cinema, but when or if you see both films you will understand what I mean.
It plays like a love story of friendship and organized crime. If you're wondering, yes, it does deserve all of the acclaim it has received since being restored to Leone's 3 hr. 47 min. cut. If you're a fan of film, a fan gangster dramas, think that the Godfather is as great as people make it out to be, or just someone with 4 hours to kill, pick this up.
Enjoy!
