Review of Once Upon a Time in America (1984) by Liam B — 01 Oct 2012
De niro is fantastic, james woods is fantastic the entire cast does a near-perfect job convincing the audience their emotions are genuine through career highlighting performances. This film initially received ill reviews from it's shorter edited theatre version.
The original copy now sold on dvds is a much richer and cohesive story. Leone convinces the time the story takes place in and the ruggedness of the hoodlums captured on their way up crime through great costume designs, shooting locations, environmental design, and skillful casting.
A must see gangster film and a classic by my standards showing once again, Leone's ability to tell a great captivating story through the film that is a definitive Leone work, perhaps his best.
