Review of Once Upon a Time in America (1984) by Avi S — 30 Mar 2011
The film that was butchered by the studio system. Once Upon A Time In America is in my mind the best gangster movie ever made, yes that would make better then The Godfather. An epic in every sense of the word, that's not to mention its running time of 229 minutes.
Once Upon A Time In America is a truly beautiful film about friendship, love, lust, greed, and betrayal. Featuring great performances from Robert De Niro, James Woods, Elizabeth McGovern, Tuesday Weld, and young Jennifer Conelly, and great direction from the legend, Sergio Leone.
What also makes this movie special is its complex flashback structure. Once Upon A Time In America is truly an haunting as well as beautiful experience that is must see for anyone who calls themselves a movie lover.
