Review of Once Bitten (1985) by Eric Vaughn — 24 Mar 2009
Cheese alert!! Only through a tip from a friend did I discover such a movie even existed. A teen/sex/vampire comedy starring Jim Carrey made in 1985. You can't get much better than that.
First of all... Yikes! Did the clothes in the eighties really look that horrible. Crikey. Wardrobe certainly added one more layer of humor to the proceedings. It was really weird to see Jimbo with such a thin face, he was like really young and shit. Even then we could see signs of his trademark physical comedy, and this movie probably smoothed the way for one pet detective quite nicely.
Sadly this pretty stupid comedy is still funnier than many contemporary movies. There are some genuinely funny lines and moments in there. I also have to mention the awesome synthesizer music, a must at the time. But the dance sequence...
What the fuck!?
Honestly, I have no idea what was behind the extremely weird and spontaneous dance that the main characters suddenly burst into. Suffice it to say, Jimbo really had the moves in that area too. He even showcases maybe the best single dance move the world has ever seen. I will surely replicate it one day if I have the nimbleness.
Awesome cheese-filled, brainless flick with a very young Jim Carrey.
P.S. The bat looks very real. LOL.
