Review of Once (2007) by Peter P — 07 Oct 2012
Throughout watching Once there was one word that kept coming up in my mind to describe it, now maybe it is because the lead character says the word a lot, but even if he didn't, I still think it applies, and that word is.
...Brilliant, this film is amazingly brilliant. From the acting, to the songs and the dynamic of the cast to the overall story, it put a big smile on my face and all I could think was, well, brilliant.
Something else that also made me smile is that the lead actress also reminded me a lot of my good friend Angela Verven, not in looks, although kinda, but just the overall type of person and quality of the character that she had just screamed Angela in a huge way.
Lastly, I have never had more of an urge to write a song than after seeing Once, it just has this simple but beautiful feel about it. Now the one thing I wish was a little different in the film was the camera work, it was kinda shaky, I am not sure if that is what the director wanted to be artsy in some way, and if he did, then ok, but I would have preferred a more steady hand for the framing, but that is just a small compliant, and it still does not take away from my original thought, it is just brilliant, now I am off to go write a song, cheers.
