Review of Once (2007) by Mark — 19 Jul 2007
It's very difficult to create genuine and big emotion out of such small moments in a film. but once probably does it better than any movie I've ever seen with the possible exception of 'eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.
' and, as a musician I can tell you that there was not one single false note in the songs, or the depiction of the emotional journey that is writing and recording music. no film has ever so successfully captured that very daunting and naked process that can devastate your self-esteem.
which is why people often fall in love when making music together. it requires honesty, humility and vulnerability, without somehow losing your integrity. that's what 'once' is about. and for the first time, I truly cannot even fathom the people here who've given this less than a five rating.
